An Untreated Bruise Lasts Two to Four Weeks

Posted on 19. Jun, 2009 by in Bruising

A blog reader asks, “Can you tell me how long it will take to have a bruise go away on its own versus with Bruise Relief?” Far too long is the short answer.

Here’s the longer version excerpted from WebMD:

Bruises develop when small blood vessels under the skin tear or rupture, most often from a bump or fall. Blood leaks into tissues under the skin and causes the black-an-blue color. As bruises heal, usually within two to four weeks, they often turn colors including purplish black, reddish blue or yellowish green. Sometimes the area of the bruise spreads down the body in the direction of gravity. A bruise on the leg will take longer to heal than a bruise on the arm.

Two to four weeks for a bruise to heal on its own. That’s a long time to be walking around watching your bruise turn from purple to blue and green.

When applied immediately after impact, Bruise Relief often prevents a bruise from ever forming. Minimally, using Bruise Relief after impact will diminish the duration of a bruise.
